Everywhere there’s a environ of iPhone hullaballo.
The Apple Iphone is all set for launch in India. Steve Jobs’ Apple has been quite successful in retaining the hype about its flagship gadget. What a hype is Apple always able to create, before launching the products!
Personally I’ve been a part of it, and a victim of the hype. Been using the Apple iPhone for the last 4 months, it quite surprises me how can someone go for spending 200-600 $ for such a “nonsense” device.
1. 8 GB memory size is an illusion- Unluckily You can’t save anything while browsing the internet on the iPhone. the WiFi works cool, surfing is great . But since we don’t have internet all around in India, iPhone users won’t be happy . There is no provision for downloading mp3s, or the cool jpeg you might have stumbled upon the web.
2. Worst speaker sound output- iPhone will disappoint anyone except those who don’t mind earphones plugged into their ears all the time . Even the ring tones are not audible properly.I generally sleep for 6-7 hours a day and find 10-12 phone calls missed everytime.
You may say the sound output of Iphone speakers is less than that of any phone I’ve ever used. I admit, the sound quality is great while using the Apple earphones, but one plugs them in occasionally.
But you won’t even notice the song playing if you’re sitting in a room with fan on, or a local bus. Even the basic Nokia/Erricson models have 10x times better sound.
In addition, you cannot connect the usual headphone/earphone jack the iPhone sound jack plug.
3. Keyboard - iPhone uses a innovate virtual keyboard, granted ! Innovation is good if people use it. If you’re in a habit of typing SMS messages on the move, or while sitting in a local bus, Forget it.
4. No Copy-Paste - A phone with features like Email and web browsing, and not having any provision to copy - paste is a rarity. Imagine the kind of helpless feeling iPhone users go through when they like a URL, paragraph, or image , and feel like forwarding or SMSing it: but discover that iPhone doesn’t supply that feature.
5. Itunes, you make me cry- You can’t download a song on iPhone if you don’t have iTunes installed, nice blackmail Jobs. I remember how easy it was to download songs on the Nokia phones, Plug it, detects as a PenDrive, and copy anything you won’t. Well sad to say the cute Apple Iphone doesn’t get detected by the computer that way. Install the bloatware Itunes, Sync it. Moreover, the previous library of songs will vanish if you’re syncing from a new machine
6. Camera Struggles- plain 2 megapixel camera. added “features” : NO ZOOM IN, NO video, POOR motion IMAGE QUALITY
No Battery replacement: One cannot open and replace battery as with Nokia or Sony.
We all know Apple Iphone has Multi-touch, Sensors, and a sex appeal beyond comparision . Before shelling out the hard earned money, one should consider what the iPhone can’t do: no video shooting, no zoom in/out in camera, no 3gp, no call recording, no built-in MMS, hardly anything without Itunes. If you’re using GPRS, the iPhone won’t let you save your KBs, no feature to turn off images or disable plugins while surfing. So a gamle uncumber for those who using high cost prepaid data plans. Before buying one, it would be better to take a demo from a friend first
More coming up. hacking the iphone, adding Network Scanners to it

the good looking phone can’t even Forward SMSes, and you can’t even share a photograph or an MP3 using the Bluetooth on it.. seems like BT is useless there

i will have to say most of the points put up here are true…except for point number 3… i would like the author to look at things from a more logical and practical point of view rather than merely from a indian contextual point of view where music / mp3 is 80-90% pirated. If you use a music library that is your own (legal) and genuine.. you will not complain bout syncing it with itunes on different computers… however there might be a situation that i would want to keep half of my “legal” music collection on my desktop and the other half on laptop.. and be able to sync em both to iPhone. But then m sure i will be 1 in 50 or maybe more to do that.

@Zach
we’re not crappy racists like you dude …
iphone really sucks! esp at 31K..
some additional problems with iphone:
1. only 2MP camera..
2.no video recording with camera
3.can’t use any other SIM
4.iTunes lockin and having to pay for every program i download (heck i didn’t do it for Windows & they expect us to pay for mobile phone)…
and jailbreaking the iphone, voids the warranty..
i am sooo f*** up with this crazy and blatant money making tactic by apple! they are the worse company ever and not suited for indians looking for value for money..

Rs. 31000/- equals $720, and there will be taxes, activation charges, and other monthly fees. On one hand, we’re talking of global food crisis, inflation and economic downturn. And on the other hand is the iPhone. I’d be ashamed of myself, and any developing country should be ashamed of themselves for buying iPhone. What makes me mad is Steve Jobs will proudly present millions of iPhones sold in US, but will announce an exorbitantly high price in India to prevent “mass buying”. Double standards you say? The iPhone was a dream for me, and it’ll remain a dream for me for a long time. Not going to buy an iPhone, or any other Apple product in the future.

I will only say that the exorbitant pricing is probably due to Apple’s arrogance. It simply wants to show off and wants to cash on Indian customers’ immaturity and tendency to be seduced by new products. But I hope that it will realize that Indians are no different from the rest of world. They deserve the same level of iphone pricing. Unless it does so, it won’t be successful. With Sony Ericsson and Nokia launching much more technologically advanced products than the iphone for much lower prices, iphone will be a failure unless it comes down to more realistic price levels. Till then, Apple will rot.
